Loeries Africa Road Show held in Accra [Ghana News Agency]


(Ghana News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Accra, April 16, GNA The Loeries, Africas biggest showcase of the brand communications industry, has set in motion preparation towards its 2014 awards in Cape Town, South Africa from September 15 to 21.



The road show which was sponsored by the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), Unilver Ghana Limited, and Live FM, was patronized by stakeholders in the communication and advertising industry.

Mr Andrew Human, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Loeries, said for the first time in the history of the organization, someone from Ghana will be appointed to sit on the awards panel of judges.


He urged players in the advertising and communication industry to always set aside a budget for doing something they have never done before.

He said just by being innovative in your work is likely to generate business rewards, adding that creativity must be used as a business tool to bring about quality innovative works.

Mr Human advised players in the industry to always ensure that their works have relevance to the target audience.

Madam Shirley Acquah-Harrison, Marketing and Business Director of GCGL said the print media is the best platform for advertising, explaining that hard copies would always be available for generations to see.

She said, currently, the Daily Graphic holds 70 per cent share of the daily newspapers market in Ghana, while the weekly Mirror, which is now being published on Fridays, holds 80 per cent of the weekly newspapers market.

Mrs Norkor Duah, Lowe Lintas CEO, said the advertising bill which is yet to be placed before Parliament, when passed, would streamline the advertising industry.

She called on advertisers to be more pro-active in their business, and to do genuine work all the time, declaring that if you dont know your consumer, you are not going anywhere.

Mr Colin Charles of Publicists West Africa, described Ghana as an oasis of peace in the Sub-Region, which would soon be the giant of the advertising industry in West Africa.

The Loeries was founded 30 years ago in Cape Town, and has hosted a number of events in other major cities across the continent, such as Harare, Dar Es Salaam, Lagos and Nairobi.

It encompasses all areas of brand communication, including television, film and video, radio, print, digital communication, communication design, architecture, interior design, direct marketing, public relations, live events, sponsorship, branded content and integrated campaigns.

The entry deadline for the 2014 awards is May 30, and the cost of registration ranges from 200 to 300 dollars per entry.

The Accra edition included thought-provoking excerpts from the Loeries Seminars, winning work from the region, as well as key information on entering the Loeries and attending Loeries Creative Week Cape Town.
