Amatole Telecoms, a South African Under-Serviced Area License service provider, reportedly has selected VocalTec’s Essentra VoIP solutions in partnership with RedLinx, a South African based value-added partner.

VocalTec (News - Alert) Communications is a global provider of carrier-class multimedia and voice-over-IP solutions for communication service providers. The company provides trunking, peering and residential/enterprise VoIP application solutions that enable flexible deployment of next-generation networks.

As part of the project, VocalTec would deploy VoIP solution over Amatole Telecoms’ WiMAX (News - Alert) carrier-grade, converged IP network.

VocalTec officials said that the company’s Essentra solution will support Amatole Telecoms’ requirement to provide customers with innovative residential and enterprise services, over next-generation network architecture.

Officials claimed that the VoIP infrastructure would enable the provision of subscriber services at reduced cost, while enhancing service flexibility as well as the rapid deployment of value-adding services and applications.

“Amatole’s implementation is an excellent example of how WiMAX service providers in emerging markets can bundle voice services to improve their competitiveness, while leveraging the investment in their existing infrastructure with a fast ROI,” said Ido Gur, president and chief executive officer at VocalTec. Gur said that the company looks forward to expanding this partnership and further success in the region.

Sean van der Walt, managing director of RedLinX (News - Alert) said that Amatole Telecoms is an excellent example of a new generation of innovate telecoms operators that are pushing Quality of Service VoIP over Wireless to the next level.

Walt said that the VocalTec Essentra solution was installed, integrated and configured with relative ease and provided a stable carrier-grade voice offering in a short space of time.

“VocalTec’s VoIP technology easily integrated into our WiMAX network to provide voice services to underserved areas, in line with the Eastern Cape Provincial Government’s ICT strategy to bridge the digital divide,” said Bevan Booy, the COO at Amatole Telecoms.

Booy said that using VocalTec’s solutions, the company would be able to serve residential and business customers with high quality voice services at affordable prices, while obtaining the operational flexibility to quickly add new services.
